| Name: | Savil Ashkevron |
|---|
Character Details.
Full name: Savil Ashkevron
Aliases: Herald Savil, Old Windbag, Aunt UnSavory
Canon from: The Last Herald Mage trilogy
Canon type (movies/books, etc): books
Age (approx if not sure): 72
Gender: Female
Character history:
Savil is a Herald-mage of Valdemar, chosen by the horse-like Companion named Kellan. Though not stated clearly in the books, most Heralds are chosen by their Companion while still in their teens. After spending several years at a special school in the capitol city of Haven, all Heralds serve as guardians of the land of Valdemar. They are a special force that serve as anything from fighting off bandits, making sure the laws are followed, and general peace keepers reporting on the state of the country, or they can be used as spies, diplomats, explorers, or very occasionally as assassins.
Herald Savil traveled quite a bit in her youth and probably did a lot of spying or diplomacy since her mage-powers and wit tended to be quite helpful in those areas. She even became friends with a group of Tale'edras and was on good terms with the Shin'a'in, both groups legendary for being quite secrative and suspicious of outsiders. Age eventually caught up with Savil though and she semi-retired from the field and became a mage teacher at the Herald Collegium and did occasional traveling to other countries as a diplomat.
After a number of years of teaching and decades of avoiding her insanely narrow-minded family, her brother Withen quite suddenly sent her nephew to live with her in Haven with the
request that she 'make a man' out of the boy. Herald Savil had no interest in the pampered pretty-boy though and shoved him to the side as a dead weight until she came to realize
her best student, Tylendal, had possibly formed a rare life-bond with Vanyel. She was hesitantly in favor of the relationship since it seemed to be maturing Vanyel and restraining Tylendal's usual hot-headed tendencies, and kept the relationship hidden from her brother Withen.
She later regretted her decision though when Tylendal convinced Vanyel help him avenge Tylendal's brother's murder. The two boys snuck off one night and managed to conjure Wyrsa
(a mage-beast looking like a scaled wolf, that attacks every living thing until nothing is left within miles of it) to attack the family celebration held by the murderer's family. Savil and the other Heralds arrived just in time to see Tylendal's Companion revoke him and die fighting off the wyrsa. Tylendal then commited suicide, leaving Vanyel with a broken life-bond and the boy's magical channels blasted open from the backlash. And Chosen by a Companion, which meant Savil's nephew was now a Herald student.
After saving Vanyel from suicide and warding off Withen's 'Holy Wrath' for allowing Vanyel to find out he was gay, she simply packed the boy up and took him away from Haven down to
her friends with the Tale'edras tribe for magic training and healing. Savil was one of the most powerful mages in Valdemar, and yet she was quite honest about the fact that she couldn't restrain her nephew's newly awakened powers for as long as it would take for him to heal and learn to control them on his own. It was there that Savil managed to teach Vanyel the true meaning behind being a Herald, which was to care for the people relying on his protection and to want to do things for the sake of others.
Years later, after successfully seeing Vanyel into his Whites (the uniform of a full Herald), Savil once again took on her role as a teacher at the collegium and occasionally traveling
outside Haven as a spy or a diplomat.
Character personality: Savil is strong-willed, intelligent, and a unwilling to put up with those she considers to be narrow-minded, manipulative, or weak by their own choice. She has a big heart for those she cares for though she'll try her darndest to hide that, but if a person does something wrong and refuses to correct themselves it doesn't matter who they are she'll chew them up one side and down the other. She's a pinnacle of 'tough love' towards her students in that respect. However, Savil is more than willing to help anyone truly in need no matter what the cost is to herself.
Savil considers her farm-based family to be dull-headed dirt -grubbers for their lack of imagination and 'bull-headed beliefs' as she put it. She considers the Heralds to be her
family since they all share a similar goal and set of ideals. After Vanyel is Chosen to become a Herald and pretty much becomes as disowned as Savil herself is, Savil eventually
comes to see Vanyel as the son she never had. As a Herald life is always uncertain and unpredictable, so most Heralds do not form permanent families. Savil never really considered getting married and settling down like normal people would which was one of the deep dividers
between her and the rest of her family who couldn't understand that. She's had a number of lovers throughout her life and still cares for them though they were more deep friendships than everlasting love and devotion. Her duty to king and county would always come first, even if it meant to the death.
Physical description: Savil is lean and fit from all her years of travel and practicing her swordsmanship and martial arts, but she's a bit on the short side when it comes to hight. Her hair and eyes were once brown but because of her affiliation with magic-use they have both been bleached out over the years until her rather long hair turned silvery-white and her eyes are just as pale blue as Kellan's. Savil can look just as regal as an icequeen when she wants, especially when she's about to get into an argument with someone and knows she'll win. Otherwise, she looks like a self-assured, confident, and yet trustworthy and somewhat friendly woman. What she doesn't look like, though, is her age. As a side-effect from using magic so much the woman looks a good deal younger than she really is.
Magical powers or special skills: Adept-level mage powers (the strongest level in her universe), mind-speaking, martial arts, swordsmanship, archery, horseback riding, skills dealing in 'dirty warfare' including spying and sabotage, she can also speak in at least 5 languages
Any crimes committed in canon: Spying, tresspassing, forgery, theft, probably a bunch of others
Crime incarcerated into Glaxcin for (this can be any crime of your choosing, especially if the character is not a criminal in their canon): Spying and theft
